Are you a parent concerned because your child is struggling with English and writing, or preparing for the AP English Exam or SAT? Are you a student just needing some extra help with a specific writing project? I have tutored English for over seven years, and specialize in helping students from middle school to graduate school drastically improve their writing.
I love writing, but I understand that it is not easy because it was not always easy for me. In high school and college, I often meandered my way through writing assignments and struggled with writer’s block. My experiences in law school and in legal practice, however, forced me to drastically change the process I had always used to write. I now use the techniques I developed to help others improve the way they approach the writing process. In my final year of law school, I also served as the Managing Editor of an internationally-distributed law journal, editing submissions by both professors and students and coaching authors to improve articles.
I love the writing process and would welcome the opportunity to work with you or your child to change the way you write. I enjoy motivating students to learn and grow; I don’t believe in passive busywork or grammar worksheets. When I tutor, my aim is to keep my students engaged 100% of the time. I use visuals, brainstorming games, and rewards to help my students get the most out of each lesson. In sum, my goal is to try to change the way my students learn to write, leaving them with writing skills and methods they can continue to use long after they no longer need my tutoring.

English as a Second Language Tutoring:
I have taught ESL for seven years, both in a formal classroom setting and on an individual level. I have tutored students of all ages - from five to forty - and my focus is on helping my students polish their conversational and written English. In the last seven years, I have worked with students from Thailand, Taiwan, Japan, South Korea, China, India, Mexico, and Puerto Rico. I enjoy helping ESL speakers develop their English and learn about American culture, and I love learning about my student's cultures in turn.

Amber used to be a tutor for me and my wife. We came from Japan and my wife cannot speak English at all. Amber's lesson was done not only inside the room. She sometime took my wife out to a grocery store to teach English which were actually used in the US life.
I have a problem with pronunciation. Amber tried to do root cause of my problems and my pronunciation seemed to be better after her advice.
We really enjoyed the lessons with her and would like to have another lesson in future if we have opportunity.
